Turkey Trot & Food Drive

If you have never walked or run along the Pacific Coast in Encinitas in late November, you are in for the surprise of your life. Early morning offers a beautiful color to the Pacific Ocean. The waves have a special look during this time of the year. Start your Thanksgiving Holiday fun with friends and family at the Encinitas Turkey Trot 5k & 10k. It starts and finishes under the World Famous “ENCINITAS” Sign on Coast Highway 101. Our event supports the North County chapter of the San Diego Food Bank.

Race course

5k / 10k

The course starts under the world famous “Encinitas” sign on historic Coast HWY 101 in beautiful Encinitas, California. This scenic loop passes by the famous “Cardiff Kook” statue, rises above some of the most popular surf breaks in the world and heads down to Cardiff State Beach.

Then you get to enjoy the view on the return trip.

The 10k race

NEW 10K Course Announcement for this year’s Encinitas Turkey Trot! You’ve been waiting, and here it is! The 10K course will be a 2 Loop Course. It will start and finish under the iconic Encinitas Sign, and travel south. Here are the basics:

  • The First Loop will take runners south on the 101 to the 10K turnaround at the San Elijo State Beach Campground entrance, and then head north up to H St. in front of Nytro MultiSport, and Encinitas Lumberyard.
  • For the Second Loop, runners will turn around at H St, and head south on the 101, again to the San Elijo State Beach Campground entrance, where then will turn around, and head north all the way to the finish under the Encinitas Sign.

The 5k race

Here is the 2016 5K Course! A gorgeous out and back along the Coast Highway 101, starting and finishing at the Encinitas Sign, and turning around at the North end of the San Elijo State Beach Campgrounds.

Our event supports the North County chapter of the San Diego Food Bank. There are three ways to give.

  1. Food Drive: Please bring non-perishable food items to ‘Packet Pick-Up’ or the day of the event.
  2. "Thanksgiving, Meals in a Basket": 100% of donations collected by the Encinitas Turkey Trot will purchase family meals for active military families.

Additionally, Encinitas Turkey Trot will be providing a grant to the Boy Scouts Troop #776 of St. John the Evangelist Church in Encinitas, the San Dieguito High School Academy of Music, as well to Cardiff School District for their support of the event.

Turkey Trot Costume Contest
  • Register at the Costume Contest Registration table prior by 7am
  • Trophies will be awarded to the top three Individual, Group and Kids divisions who best display the spirit of Thanksgiving at the Encinitas Turkey Trot
  • The costume award ceremony immediately following the 10k race
  • Race completion times have no bearing on costume contest results
  • Normal running attire is not considered a costume
  • Participants must be present at awards ceremony to receive trophies

Packet pick up

We strongly encourage you pick up your bib and soft cotton T-Shirt at Road Runner Sports Sunday, Monday or Tuesday as the day of the event will be quite crowded.

FAQs

  1. Who thought of this idea?
    Steve Lebherz. Steve is a long time resident of Encinitas and has been looking for a way to help needy families throughout the north county of San Diego.
  2. Why Thanksgiving Morning?
    An early run on Turkey Day helps get friends and family out of the house and eliminates some of the guilt as you indulge on turkey and all the fixings.
  3. Will water be provided?
    Yes. There will be water stations throughout the event, as well as fruit and water at the start and finish line.
  4. Are strollers okay?
    SURE! We encourage BOBs (Baby On Board) as this is a family event.
  5. Can I bring my dog?
    No. No Pets allowed.
  6. Can I ride a bike/rollerblade/tricycle/unicycle/skateboard?
    No. Please leave your wheels at home.
  7. How do I volunteer for this awesome event?

  8. Where can I park?
    Parking is available at the Encinitas Library, Encinitas City Hall, Coaster Station, Moonlight Beach, and surface streets on 2nd and 3rd Street.
  9. What streets will be closed?
    All south bound lanes and western northbound lanes of PCH from Encinitas Blvd. to the South Cardiff State Beach parking lot. D Street, between Vulcan and 2nd Street, E street, between 2nd and PCH.
  10. When will I get my results?
    Results are available immediately after the race through Excelarace.com
  11. Will Gear Check be provided?
    Gear Check will not be provided.
